Fecal incontinence can be defined as the loss of normal control of the bowels, which leads to stool leaking from the rectum at unexpected times (Matibag et al 2003). Being incontinent of feces is a chronic health condition that can have debilitating effects on functional, psychological and social wellbeing (Bliss et al 2004).
